Research Focus

The goal of the proposed research is to develop standardized and easy to use procedure to isolate brown adipose tissue (BAT) preadipocytes for transplantation to combat obesity and diabetes. I have the expertise, leadership and motivation in both academic and industrial settings necessary to successfully carry out the proposed work as the Principal Investigator. I also have studied energy balance and metabolism in vivo with genetically modified mice. As PI on several California- and NIH-funded grants, I have established a variety of in vivo mouse models and cell-based assay systems to accomplish the proposed goals for improvements of human diseases. In addition, I successfully administered the projects (e.g. staffing, research protections, budget), collaborated with other researchers, and produced several peer-reviewed publications from my past projects. In addition, I have been working on BAT, stem cell biology and in vivo obesity models during the past 15 years.
