Research Focus

      He received the MD degree from the Nantong Medical School in 1987, the PhD degree in 1993 from Department of Biochemistry, Osaka University Medical School, Japan. From 1993 to 1997, he worked at Osaka Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health as a researcher. He then joined in Dr. Kenneth Yamada’s lab in-1999. In 1999-2002, he was appointed as an assistant professor at the Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University. He was then recruited to the Department of Biochemistry, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine in 2002, and was promoted to associate professor. In 2006, he was appointed as a full professor in the current place, Division of Regulatory Glycobiology, Institute of Molecular Biomembrane and Glycobiology, Tohoku Pharmaceutical University, Japan.

      Dr. Gu’s group has been performing extensive studies on the importance of N-glycans in physiology and pathology, and demonstrated the N-glycans play important roles in cell growth and differentiation, cancer invasion and metastasis, and brain and nervous systems. He had published 24 review papers and 87 original papers.
